Human Sub Characters
Tomkins
Edgar's butler. His family comes from the line of butlers who serve the Ashenbert family, and the past generation of butlers have been looking over the earl's estates and possessions from the last earl from 300 years ago. Tomkins had been taking care of the Ibrazel castle on Mannor Island while being the owner of the island inn. He pleasantly welcomes Edgar and Lydia's party when they first arrived (book 1) to the island, saying that the island visitors who are here to steal the Ashenbert family fortune will end up washed up dead on the sea shore. But after Edgar returns with the sword as the new heir, Tomkins welcomes him as his long-awaited master.
He has Merrow blood, and his face vaguely resembles a fish's. He also states that he has a fin on his back. When he met the leader of the Merrows for the first time, the leader mistook him for his ancestor, and said that "he is almost human now".
He takes pride in being able to accomplish any task related to his duties that Edgar gives him, no matter how rushed the deadline or how ludicrous it is. He realizes that Edgar is not the true bloodline to the Blue Knight, as he has no magic ability, but Lydia believes that he respects his new young master who shows a true noblesse oblige.

Kelly
Kelly is the lady's maid for Lydia who has recently joined the Ashenbert house staff in London after meeting Lydia while she was being held captive by the McKeel family. Kelly had grown up in a town near the McKeel hometown where people believed in fairies but she herself doesn't possess any magical abilities. Only her open mind lets her hear and talk to Nico, who can speak to anyone just as long as they believe he isn't an ordinary cat.
She has served as a maid for ladies before, and has experience when it comes to serving newly weded wives and uses that knowledge to comfort and encourage Lydia who both trust and care for her as a friend. Edgar hired her, having in mind that Lydia's maid needed to be loyal first to his Countess, and later regrets a little of choosing a maid too loyal that she wouldn't tell him what Lydia was keeping secret.
Raven's new friendship with Nico often causes him to overlook her, but her words of advice regarding a newly wed couple stricks respect from Raven who even thought of her as a old woman, despite the fact she is younger than both Raven and Lydia. She herself is frightened of Raven, from his lack of expression to the fact that he would save Nico and leave her behind. She cares deelply and respects Lydia, both as a countess and fairy doctor, but has started to change her mind of Edgar from a noble Earl and caring fiance to an easily jealous and childlike man when it comes to Lydia.

Mrs. Harriet
The housekeeper of Edgar's London grand mansion. She is human and isn't able to see or hear fairies.
Fredrick Carlton
Lydia's father. He works as a professor at a London University, specializing in gems and minerals. He has authority in the natural history department and is invited to meetings from several different fields. He is also well known within the upper class.
His interests is focused in minerals, and is nonchalant about everything else. According to Lydia, when he's immersed in his studies he wouldn't notice if a spear came falling down, but in Edgar's opinion, he's a man with 'scholar-like keen eyes, with unprejudiced thinking, and can ascertain the nature of things' but at the same time evaluates him as one who 'tries to think favorably as possible after ascertaining everything, a dear soft-hearted person just like Lydia,' a rare person who is respected by Edgar who constantly stands above others. At heart, Edgar is honored in becoming his family by marrying Lydia.
He deeply loves his daughter and late wife, Aurora. He trusts Lydia, and raised her freely without tying her down. He is accepting of the slightly dangerous nature of Lydia's job, and respects her decision in working as Edgar's consultant. However at first, he was extremely suspicious of Edgar's intentions towards his young daughter from reading the gossip papers about Edgar's women affairs and believing that noblemen would not seriously pursue women born into the lower classes and so was cautious about their growing relationship, not wanting his daughter to become a victim. But trusting Lydia's feeling, and after learning about Edgar's past and the organization that's after him and coming to trust him, he agrees to thier marriage.

Aurora Carlton (maiden name: McKeel)
Lydia's mother and Fairy Doctor. She died before the beginning of the series. Lydia looks up to her, and she is the inspiration behind Lydia's determination to become a good fairy doctor. Hearing that her mother was a beauty with platinum blonde hair and fair white skin, Lydia was concerned that she didn't resemble her mother at all, but in truth, Aurora as an adolescent had a face full of freckles with shaggy hair and a bony figure without the slightest sex appeal and only became beautiful after meeting Fredrick, according to Nico.
She was raised as the daughter in a branch family of a major highland clan, the McKeels, and because the clan wanted to keep the ability of fairy doctors in their blood they kept repeating the practice of changelings, and so she is in fact a changeling herself, having the strong blood of fairy in her. When she was sixteen, she met Fredrick who was a college student visiting the island for mineral research purposes, and rescued him after he stumbled into fairyland and fell in love with him. Even though they promised to meet again, Fredrick didn't remember the occurrence in the fairyland, and so the promise was never fulfilled and time only passed. Aurora had the role of being the Prophet's fiancée, and after she turned 21 and the Prophet still hadn't awakened then it was decided that she would marry the second chosen fiancé but she proposed to Fredrick who visited the island again right before her 21th birthday, and eloped with him.
Lydia who was born afterwards, was abducted by the McKeel clan to also become a customary changeling, but Aurora followed her into the Holy Land and successfully recovered her. Furthermore, to cut off the continuation of changelings she opened the coffin of the Prophet and accepted the bloodstone and the words left by the Prophet. At this time, due to opening the coffin and taking the full blow of the powerful magic, her body that was healthly gradually weakened, and she passed away still very young. She was openhearted and had a frank personality, and Lydia thought Edgar slightly resembled her (as well as his blond hair reminded her of her mother.)
In Aurora's family, the 'Selkie's heart' that was passed down through the generations from mother to daughter, was passed on to Lydia through Fredrick.

Duke of Sylvainford
Edgar's father. A fastidious but honest man loyal to the Royal Family of England. He carries the blood of several Stuart family bloodlines. Besides his hair, he resembles Edgar as much as any normal family. Seeing Jeanmary at first sight, he used his authority to steal her away from her fiancé Marquis of Barkston. Because of that Barkston loathes him, and stole the Diamond Daydream when the Duke was in charge of its care while its ambassadors were visiting Rome who were coming to take it back to the royal family of england, and was accused of treason by the Royal family. At the same time, a different organization from the Stuarts (Jacobites) that was attempting to overthrow the England royalty, and from there he learns the secret of the blood of his wife's family, the existence of his wife's former fiancé was still writing letters to his wife, and after learning of the danger of his son because of that, he grew to hate his wife but then came a warning from someone who was trying to kill Edgar and the Duke learned that the ones who were after the diamond were really after his son, he pointed a pistol to Edgar on the night their estate was attacked and cursed the words that "You should have never been born." (Those words were the last memory of his father, and Edgar would continue to suffer long afterwards.)
But in truth, the Duke regrets his words and after Edgar fell unconscious, he tried to escape with his son and dying wife from the burning estate but the escape route was blocked and they were killed by Prince's men. Right before their death, his wife apologized for marrying him while keeping her family secret, but he said that he "would have married her even if he knew," and to his unconscious son he left the words of acceptation of him as the next Duke of Sylvainford, to protect the honor of his ancestors and to live.
Because he didn't resemble his father (Edgar's grandfather) who was a tyrant, arrogant but charming and intelligent man, and also feeling inferior to his younger brother Phillip (who passed away from disease when Edgar was 11) who was favored more by his father, he was extremely happy that his son Edgar, who resembled his grandfather, would be a worthy heir to the Lealand family, and even felt proud of him, but at the same time was frightened that his son would realize that he was a boring man.

Jeanmary Lealand
Edgar's mother and Duchess of Sylvainford. She is the descendant of the illegitimate lineage of Bonnie Prince Charlie (including French noble blood) who escaped the revolution and went to France. She is a beautiful flamboyant woman with sparkling blonde hair and blue eyes who dazzles everyone.
Because of her bloodline, she was targeted to be the woman to give birth to a boy who'd become the next Prince host body, and so it was decided that her fiance's bloodline would match that of the Stuarts. According to who her fiance was, she would become the bride as the ideal mother for the next Prince, and so was first sent to a Catholic finishing school in France, and after she turned 17 and her Majesty, she was to be married. But the Duke of Sylvainford, who after seeing at first sight, used his power to steal her from her fiance Marquis of Barkston, and because she thought of her previous engagement as something no more or less a decision by her parents, went to marry the duke without any resistment.
Before her death, she was acquainted with Ares, who approached her as a teacher when she was studying at the Catholic women's school, and she was warned of the danger of her blood and that she musn't birth a boy, but she hid that secret and married the duke. After learning about her dangerous bloodline, she was filled with the fear for Edgar and her own remorse. And on the night of Christmas when Edgar was 12, their estate was attacked by Prince's men, and she and her husband struggled to at least have escape but she died from a gunshot wound, and the duke was caught up with Prince's men and killed.
According to Edgar, she was happiest being called Duchess and content at being treated like a princess, a typical aristocratic woman and not a word of expostulation or slander reached her ears. Especially with the complaints or criticisms from the tutors about Edgar, she didn't believe a word of it due to the fact that Edgar had an excellent performance in his studies and was always in good behavior in front of his mother and even after overcoming his asthma he acted as a sickly son.
